Visiting power pilots should refer to the airfield and contact details in the AIP; Papawai Airfield is listed as NZPW. If you are in the area, call us on our operating frequency 134.45 MHz to see if the runway is in use but please note that our winch may be active to 3500′, so overhead rejoins are not permitted below that altitude. If you wish to land, please let us know and follow instructions.
If the field is not in use, make a pass over the preferred runway before committing to a final approach. The airfield is also a working farm so stock and single-strand fences may be present.
We operate under the umbrella of the Greytown Soaring Centre and abide by its emergency plan and Airfield common practices and rules.
The club itself operates under those rules as well as our own standard operation procedures.
For all other gliding-related rules and procedures, please refer to the GNZ Manual of Approved Procedures.
